Difficult Breathing

Larry Korhnak
16.12.2001

When the water is polluted with too much nutrients, it grows too many green algae. Under certain conditions they can cause to water to lose the oxygen and fish will die. This fish actually came from the market and is being held by a wire under water. I▓m glad there were no alligators around when I was taking the photo. :-)

 (7) Павел Дубровский, Yes. (As a food chain generalization, more nutrients=more algae=more zooplankton=more fish=more gators. The problems are that too much algae shades out aquatic plants important for ⌠nice■ fish and algae compete for oxygen when it▓s dark. But the gators are happy to eat ⌠trash fish■ and are even happier to find them dead and not have to chase them. However, often nutrients are associated with other pollutants like insecticides that do harm gators. In Florida we have had problems with one insecticide that breaks down into a female hormone and accumulates in the top predators. The result is that male gators have tennie winies and can▓t breed. OK, I▓m sorry to have made a long boring lecture in English)

Дима ударился в коммерцию пытается торговать чужими произведениями искусства, насколько я знаю. Ему сейчас, видимо, не до интернета. НО, скореее всего, он выздоровеет и появится вновь. Dima has hit in commerce tries to trade in another's works of art as far as I know. To it(him) now, probably, not up to internet. BUT, guiqly everything, it(he) will recover and will appear again.

15: Он же объяснил: с полей в воду смывается большое количество удобрений, которые благоприятствуют размножению водорослей, те же, в свою очередь, разлагаясь уменьшают количество кислорода в воде. Рыба дохнет от удушья.

Great picture, Larry! Did you make it with 20mm lens?

 21.  Larry Korhnak 18.12.2001 01:33
Thanks for all comments and votes! (20) Konstantin, The 20mm would be perfect! but this was before I got it. This photo was taken with the 24-120 stopped all the way down on a calm day. I told Bob that there was no danger in giving away my "secrets" becase I didn't think any of the Russian photo-artists were going to try this, but I forgot about you :-)
